| Maestro Products:
Maestro has developed and actively supports two fundamental lines of products. Software for Apple II systems includes 21 significant programs carefully organized into 6 different series. Music Theory series - Tutorial programs teach an actual course in music fundamentals. Each of the four levels (I, II, III & IV) is the electronic equivalent of a fundamentals or theory method which would accompany most keyboard, band, orchestra, or choral programs. Drill and practice - level specific - Three drill and practice programs have been developed to supplement the tutorial instruction provided by the first three levels of the Music Theory series. Each package contains 24 creative drills which further develop the principles of specific level of achievement. Drill and practice - topic specific - Five traditional drill and practice programs have been developed for upgrading skills in naming notes, recognition of intervals, and rhythm generation. Games - Three programs in this series are level specific and are designed to enhance student mastery of music principles in game formats which are appealing to either one student playing independently at the computer, or two students in competition. History - Three periods of musical development are presented in this developmental series. The programs for Baroque, Classical and Romantic are each designed to emphasize the persons and places represented in each event as it made its impact on Western civilization. Pre-reader - developmental - Three levels in the Theory Readiness series are designed to develop music literacy in students who cannot yet read. The effective approach to ear training integrated into the packages insures student development which was not available before the introduction of this series. Administrative - Paula's Studio Management provides templates for use with Appleworks. Use of the package will expedite use of the computer in performing many of the administrative tasks necessary for a well functioning studio. Maestro is in the process of developing an entirely new line of materials for Macintosh and Windows 95 based computer systems. The new materials address similar teaching needs as do the older systems, but all have been created from the start to optimize use of the state of the arts features available in multi-media computers. Pedagogical development is not a reformulation of the key-based Apple II approach, but utilizes the mouse as the logical way to express student input. The programs are available on CD for use on individual computers, and floppy diskette for installation on network systems. The three lines include: Music Theory series - Two tutorial programs are currently available to teach an actual course in music fundamentals. Each of Level 1 & 2 is the electronic equivalent of a fundamentals or theory method which would accompany most keyboard, band, orchestra, or choral programs. The programs are most appropriate for beginning performance students in grades 3 through 7. Drill and practice - topic specific - Three traditional drill and practice programs have been developed for upgrading skills in naming notes, recognition of intervals, and identifying chromatic structures. These programs become very advanced and are significant for the options which allow a teacher to precisely designate the presentation to the needs of specific students. Pre-reader - developmental - Fortune Cookie is the first program in an anticipated series to develop music literacy in students who cannot yet read. Effective integration of ear training into the packages insures student development which was not available before the introduction of this series. Suitable for 5 and 6 year old students, the program includes vocalized instruction, so teacher support is not a requirement. |
